More than a restaurant — a family tradition

For over 25 years, Taj Mahal has offered Fort Wayne a unique and truly authentic Indian dining experience. We've built our reputation by serving deliciously prepared Punjabi and North Indian food in a relaxing, hospitable atmosphere — the kind of place where regulars are greeted by name and first-time guests leave feeling like family.

Many of our recipes have been passed down from generation to generation. They aren't shortcuts or fusions — they're the dishes our chefs grew up eating, made the way their grandmothers taught them. Every spice is hand-blended in our kitchen, every sauce simmered low and slow, every naan slapped onto the wall of a clay tandoor.

The Atmosphere

A room that tells a story

On the wall near the entrance, you'll find a portrait of Maharani Jind Kaur. Around the dining room hang portraits of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Maharaja Duleep Singh, and Hari Singh Nalwa — figures whose stories shaped the Punjab our food comes from.

Every image in the restaurant is meant to educate and entertain visitors about Indian culture and heritage. Pull up a chair and ask — we love sharing the stories.

Our Food Philosophy

Flavor first — never just heat

Many believe Indian cuisine is too spicy. At Taj Mahal, we know that real Indian cooking is about layered, aromatic flavor. Every dish carries warmth — but it's mild enough for children to enjoy, and we'll happily turn up the heat on request.

Hand-blended spices

We grind, toast, and blend our masalas in-house. No premade pastes, no shortcuts — just whole spices treated with respect.

Fresh, daily

Vegetables arrive each morning. Meats are marinated overnight. Naan is baked the moment you order it.

Generations of recipes

Our family recipes have traveled from village kitchens in Punjab to our tandoor in Fort Wayne — unchanged, untouched.
